Eskimo Golf Society

You may well ask, why the “Eskimo” Golf Society? The answer to that is this. The Oblates in Ireland had a fund – raising outing once a year and they called it Eskimo Golf because the Order had become famous for their work with the Eskimos. Even though we were working for a different Oblate mission I thought the name is good enough for us too and so we stuck with the Eskimo Golf Society....MORE

Fund Raising Day at Hendon Golf Club

Neither the ominous weather conditions nor the current economic climate or anything else for that matter could dampen spirits as the Eskimo Golf Society staged their 2011 Fund Raising day at Hendon Golf Club on Wednesday this week.

50 golfers and more than seventy hole sponsorships netted £7,310.00 for Fr Paschal Dillon's OMI charity work among the poor in Haiti and South America - a tremendous achievement in these difficult times.

The course was in pristine condition, the food brilliant and the Prizes as always well worth the winning and the banter and camaraderie were equally brilliant and equally enjoyable, as always on an Eskimo outing....

Captain Gerry Jackson, Secretary Kevin Kennedy, Treasurer Kathy Carey and the entire 'Eskimo team' worked hard ensure it was a "quality" Eskimo golfing occasion. Members and Guests confirmed that it was - and not just for the money raised.  'Photo Maestro Derek Ryman captured some of the atmosphere in the pictures which are already on the www.eskimogolfsociety.com website along with the full results. The overall winner was Pat Delaney with 37 points and the Guest Prize was won by Noreen Sullivan with 38 points
Captain Jerry Jackson in thanking the sponsors and everyone concerned, said " I am absolutely thrilled with everything and only sorry for those who couldn't join in on this happy and worthwhile occasion" and he reminded them not to forget his upcoming 'Captains Day' in Sudbury Golf Club Wembley HA0 1AL on July 6th.

Hi everyone and welcome to our new website.   Here you can:

  • Check the latest hot gossip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr8IdurSRFE
  • Our founder Fr Paddy Sheridan http://www.anglocelt.ie/news/obituaries/articles/2010/09/22/4000168-fr-paddy-sheridan has gone to his eternal reward. An Eskimo Guard of Honour lined the pathway to his final resting place by the Oblate Church in Inchicore Dublin 13.9.10. All that knew him remember him with fondness – for he was a lovely man and a powerful man who served his people and his God for over fifty years. He had a wit and charm that was infectious and a delight to his friends but he wouldn’t ‘suffer fools gladly’and was known to have difficulty controlling his 'footballing instincts'  when frustrated. Of course he loved Gaelic football & Hurling, traditional music and any kind of sport, but golf - he loved enough to have founded the Eskimo's.(read his article)
His main mission was keeping people true to the ‘faith of their  fathers’ and his sermons were brilliantly simple, always entertaining and always to the point. He once thundered to a noisy funeral congregation ‘remember, not one of you is going to get out of this world alive – so listen up’. When Fr Paddy spoke they listened alright... his jokes were ledgendary but this link    http://www.catholic-homilies.net/2010/06/eleventh-sunday-in-ordinary-time.html     is a recording of his last sermon –  it’s a taste of how he could deliver even when at deaths door... If anyone ever deserved the eternal life of happiness in Heaven that Fr Paddy believed awaited behind that door, it is he...... May he rest in peace.   Tom Beisty
